Botox Injections in San Antonio, TX
It’s an interesting turn of events because Botox primarily consists of the botulinum toxin type A, the same bacteria that cause botulism. Back in the 1950s, scientists discovered that when the botulinum bacteria were injected into a muscle they caused the muscle to temporarily stop contracting. Botox grew out of that research.
Initially, it was assumed Botox would be helpful with unwanted muscle spasms. In fact, its first FDA approval was for involuntary eyelid spasms in 1996. But it was in 2002 when Botox became a legend. That was the year the FDA approved Botox for aesthetic use on the upper third of the face, treating forehead lines, glabellar lines between the eyebrows, and more recently, crow’s feet. Ever since its aesthetic debut, Botox has been the world’s most popular procedure, surgical and nonsurgical, every year.
Botox Injection Procedure
Certain wrinkles form due to muscle contractions. These occur on the upper third of the face, the expressive area. When we make a frown or show surprise we engage the muscles around our eyes, on our brows, and across the forehead. Over time we make hundreds of thousands of these types of expressions and as our skin thins with age wrinkles begin to form on the surface skin above the muscles. These are known as “dynamic wrinkles.”
When Botox is injected into the muscles that form crow’s feet, the 11s between the eyebrows, and forehead lines, it stops the muscles from contracting and that stops the wrinkles from forming. That’s the magic of Botox.
Botox Injection Expected Results
Botox doesn’t provide instant results. It takes a few days for the botulinum toxin to fully block the nerve messages and relax the injected muscles. It usually takes about four days to fully relax the muscles. At that point, Botox effectively erases or thoroughly lessens the appearance of crow’s feet, the 11s, and forehead lines.
