What is Microneedling?

When you undergo microneedling at The Skin Elite, our certified skincare expert will apply ultra-thin needles to your skin, which enter two layers: the dermis and epidermis. The microchannels created by the device send a signal to the skin to regenerate while also making it possible to infuse critical nutrients, vitamins, minerals, and skin medications deeper into the structure of your skin.

What areas of the body can microneedling address?

While you may consider microneedling to be a facial procedure, this approach for skin rejuvenation can also be used on a range of body areas to create firmer, more resilient skin, including:

  • Face
  • Around the eyes
  • Mouth
  • Chest
  • Hands
  • Arms
  • Scalp
  • Neck
  • Legs
  • Knees
  • Abdomen
  • Back

How many microneedling treatments will I need?

Because microneedling is gentle and progressive, it requires a series of sessions spaced out over several months. With each session, the results will build as your complexion transforms. Those with acne scars will usually need between six and eight sessions. Our comprehensive skin evaluation process will help us tell you how many treatments you may need to achieve your vision of healthy, glowing skin.

What is the recovery time after microneedling?

In the hours and days that follow microneedling, your skin may feel tighter than usual. It may also be extra sensitive to the sun, so you will want to protect your skin with sunblock and a sunhat. Avoid touching your skin during healing and apply the skincare products and moisturizers we recommend, so you enjoy the best outcome.

What are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Once you have seen what microneedling can do for your skin quality, don’t be surprised if you are returning for more. It is safe, effective, and produces results you can see and feel – along with a range of benefits:

  • Safe, effective, FDA-approved
  • Essentially painless
  • No downtime
  • Appropriate for all skin types, tones, and textures
  • Stimulates natural collagen and elastin production
  • No heat involved
  • Needle depth can be customized to match individual needs
  • Tightens, tones, and revives
  • Stimulates circulation for healthy, glowing skin

Your Results and what to Expect

Microneedling is administered using a device called the SkinPen, a battery-operated, handheld device with a dozen ultra-fine needles. These will be customized to the exact depth required by your goals before gently gliding across your skin.

The treatment requires only about 15 minutes for the face. A numbing gel is typically applied before the pen is used, so you will not experience any discomfort.

A light treatment usually feels like sandpaper brushed against the skin, while a deeper treatment may leave your skin feeling as if you have a sunburn.
